between a rock and a hard place

concrete....now that's a very hard + cold material.  check out these awesome examples of how this minimalist/naturalist look can be warmed up.

etched concrete.  beautiful to look at and functional; provides a more non-slip surface.
imprinted floral pattern on concrete.  adds a little femininity to this otherwise more masculine flooring material.
above images from dornob.
white concrete floors brighten up this modern loft.  from decor8's archives.
marbled appearance of these floors contract gorgeously with the clean lines and boxy shapes in this modern space.  from  arsitekturmedia.

mismatch

i have about 4 sets of dishes, 3 varieties of glassware, mixed utensils, white sheets, brown sheets, stripes, florals...and somehow i never can find a matching pair of socks! i've obviously grown more accepting of mixing and matching over the years, love this look...

live in a box

hope you all had a lovely easter!  for me easter means a lot of quality silly time with my sisters, too much champagne, too much sunshine, really yummy food, egg fights (hard-boiled, it's a russian thing), good music, and bad backyard dancing.  such a fun tradtion!

check these out!! pre-fabricated homes in cube form. pretty sweet spaces if you ask me.
these pre-fab spaces from MODERN CABANA (local bay area co.) come in several designs and have floorplans ranging from 120-260 sq ft. so yes, they are small. but small can be sufficient and cozy. they can take as little as a few days or as long as a few months to build, deliver, and assemble. there are also several "green" benefits to this kind of dwelling. the fact that they are pre-fabricated (mass-produced and manufactured locally in a controlled environment) makes them eco-friendly. the small scale results in a lower carbon footprint. the transportable quality of the spaces allow them to be adaptable in function and physical locale as the needs/desires of the owner shifts.

check out SUNSET MAG article and MODERN CABANA'S (local bay area pre-fab box manufacturer) website.

greige

loving a gray pallette these days...although can't say that's really anything new. there are so many shades or gray; warm and cool tones, and what an awesome backdrop for pops of color!

mid century mod

check out this mid-century modern beauty in the santa barbara foothills! wowie! im a neutral-palette girl and i love the use of bright color splashes that don't take away from the monochromatic neutral scheme here. clean lines, cozy organic textiles, casual furnishings, and soft lighting balance the simplicity of the architecture.

belgian style.

beautiful spaces designed by famed designer Kay Douglass.  intricate balance of feminine, rustic, contemporary with cleanlines and a spiced up neutral palette.

i love the casual, inviting appearance of these dining chairs. sloppy chic.  comfortable, practical slipcovered parsons chairs in a muted eggplant sit gracefully under this plank-topped farm style table. yum!
i think ive seen this kitchen in my dreams.  concrete floor, HUGE fridge, and TONS of natural stone counter space!
love the mix of clean contemporary and traditional here. and lots of white with splashes of intense color.
