pallet re-purpose.

on an amazing bike ride today in half moon bay (sunshiny blue skies, btw...which NEVER happens out there!), i came across a section of the bike path that's temporarily reinforced by shipping pallets. although my vintage roadie didnt necessarily love the bumpy ride, i was inspired by this inventive re-use of the abundant (and oh-so-commonly trashed) pallet.  check out these creative applications of pallets:
big desk/workspace. funky junk interiors.
updated horizontal panelling. infarrantly creative.
platform bed. unconsumption.
counter base. apartment therapy.
plate rack. re-nest.
headboard. stylizimo.

entry hooks/picture hanger. mj porter design/etsy.
outdoor table. picnic time! re-nest.
sleep on that!

roadtrip. architecture.

woooah what a whirlwind! i just returned from a week long roadtrip up to seattle + back on monday...i LOVE the open road! there's nothing more refreshing or freeing that being on the road with a gal pal, gps, freshly loaded ipod, bicycles, and no real plan other than to get a taste of some lovely northwest cities!

we made MANY stops to soak in the sites and sun: shasta lake, ashland, eugene, portland (SUCH a great city...can't wait to go back!), tacoma, and seattle (our final destination and a GORGEOUS water-logged city!).

there's a lot to share, but ill start with a few samples of impressive architecture that the design-laden northwest has to inspire:

downtown eugene. storefront.
eugene business center floats/reflects water.
library along the way.  if all libraries were this purrrty, id spend more time there.
one of the 10 bridges that zig zag across the willamette river in portland.  this city...i hate to say it...kinda gives sf a run for its money.
walkway in a quaint section of downtown seattle.
stunning iridescent building in seattle's city center/bumbershoot.
portland + seattle...so inspiring. now back to reality...fortunately sf is NOT short on inspiration.

etsy find: bark decor

over the weekend i found a neat etsy shop that i wanted to share with you...BARK DECOR. based out of boston, sisters Sara and Shana have created wonderful eco friendly designs....home decor, apparel, jewelry, prints and paper goods. here are a few of my faves...i kinda need this first one...like, yesterday!

"We expose our screens for screen printing in the daytime sun, eliminating the need for large exposure units and print using eco-friendly water based inks and solvents. We also design from repurposed fabrics, found objects and fallen timber, all staying within our standard of quality.....and we recycle our inks!"
sara happens to make great MUSIC too!

ok, we're kinda really loving this idea....diy shower curtains from GRAIN!
TY DIY SHOWER CURTAINS are recyclable, breathable, and you can even wash them!
not sure what we love more...the diy curtain or the idea behind GRAIN....a collaboration of designers with a goal to create a sustainable future. committed to socially and environmentally responsible design, check out some of their other designs HERE
and it gets better...GRAIN donates 1% of sales to environmental causes as member of 1% FOR THE PLANET, we love that!
